Dear Club Member,
We hope you are keeping well and enjoying the return to some form of normality.
On 18th June British Cycling published their guidance for a safe return to sanctioned cycling activity. The full version of which can be viewed here:
The club committee have reviewed this with some care and would like to update you on the club’s position.
The guidance is clear that any activity which is sanctioned by the club must meet public health guidelines and the club must take responsibility for club member safety. In order to facilitate this, British Cycling have provided recommendations, the key points of which are as follows:
- Group sizes should not exceed 6 riders
- 2 meters must be adhered to on club sanctioned rides
- Hygiene protocols must be in place
Historically controlling group sizes has always been a challenge and we do not feel we can responsibility control group sizes to a maximum of 6 riders. We also feel it is practically too difficult to enforce riders adhering to being 2 meters apart whilst on group rides.
As a result, we have taken the decision not to permit club rides at this stage. We will continue to review this position on a regular basis as the advice and surrounding circumstances are changing regularly.
We recognise that many of you may feel that you can take personal responsibility for this advice and as a result may wish to participate in unofficial group rides. We kindly ask that you do not participate in these rides wearing Stourbridge Cycling Club clothing as these rides are not currently supported by the club.
We thank you for you continued support and look forward to a time when we can safely ride together again.
