2020
January – Wally made it onto tv, Midlands Today with some other members featured with him.
Covid struck in March, all activities were suspended and a phased return was made in line with government policy later in the year. Our Saturday rides remained suspended though as we were struggling to keep numbers down within guidelines.
It was agreed by Zoom meetings to honour all current 2020 memberships with a free year in 2021.
Former chairman and club stalwart Les Archer passed away in August, there was a relatively large attendance at his funeral despite Covid restrictions. http://stourbridgecyclingclub.com/about/les-archer-memories/
2021
Another quiet year, a few zoom meetings and a weak return to clubrides.
We lost a well respected club member this summer to cancer, Kevin Brain.
Clubroom reopened in September, with restrictions and poor attendance.
2022
Committee meetings started up again in April with very vague notes!
We held an interim AGM as the last one was in March 2019. Tom Payton became secretary.
The return of clubrides has been very challenging as some groups had continued during the pandemic and had become accustomed to doing their own thing.
There was a good turnout at the AGM, this time held at DK Rugby Club as the room was bigger, more airy and a free drink was offered to all attendees.
Lee Wood took over as racing secretary and had some new ideas – a town centre crit in Dudley and a family fun day, both of which were agreed we could do.
We supported Beacon RCC at their cyclo-cross event at Walsall Arboretum, we supplied several marshals and by a very lucky stroke, Pam & Jackie arrived just as the promoting club realised they didn’t have any lap counters!
2023
After 12 years, Kevin stepped down as chairman at the AGM. He received a Campagnolo corkscrew as a token of the club’s appreciation of all the work he’s done.
Roger Allen took over as chairman.
The Dudley town centre criterium will be known as the Dudley GP, the council will be liable for all costs and Chris Lawrence has been made organiser.
This went ahead on 14th July amidst the worst weather we have had for a long time! Crashes galore but the council has recognised that despite this the event was very successful.
The Family Fun Day is struggling for numbers and support so has been cancelled.
We jointly organised a cyclo-cross event with Beacon RCC at Walsall Arboretum which was hugely successful. Despite cold and wet conditions, everybody had a good day!
2024
Our 60th anniversary this year!
We continued with our usual programme, coaching sessions, time trials, a league road race, cyclo-cross events – two this year!
We celebrated 60 years with several rides in early October with some wonderful weather. The rides finished at The Bell at Trysull and a welcome buffet lunch.
